2018/19 Season preview

This season the Montreal native returns to the Canadian Opera Company to sing the role of Lensky in a new production of Eugene Onegin directed by Robert Carsen and conducted by Music Director Johannes Debut as well as to the Bayerische Staatsoper reviving the role Steva in a Barbara Frey production of Jenůfa under the baton of Simone Young. Joseph Kaiser joins Houston Grand Opera for the world premiere of The Phoenix by Tarik O’Regan and John Caird led by Music Director Patrick Summers and sings the role of Loge in Das Rheingold for the first time at the Teatro Real in a production by David Pountney with Principal Guest Conductor Pablo Heras-Casado on the podium.  On the concert stage Joseph Kaiser joins the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Christoph Eschenbach for Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, sings his first American performances of Fidelio with Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and joins Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic for Mahler’s Eighth Symphony.

2015/16 Season preview

2015-16 features four role debuts for the Canadian tenor: the title part of Peter Grimes in a new production by Christof Loy for Theater an der Wien conducted by Cornelius Meister; the title part of Oedipus Rex at the Festival d’Aix en Provence in a new production by Peter Sellars conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen; the title role of Werther with Boston Lyric Opera; and Don José in a concert presentation of Carmen with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kent Nagano.  Return engagements are highlighted in performances of Arabella at the Bayerische Staatsoper and Alceste at the Wiener Staatsoper.  Joseph Kaiser also appears with Charles Dutoit in performances of Berlioz Te Deum for an Australian debut with the Sydney Symphony.

Highlights of Joseph's 2014/15 season

The 2014-15 season includes a debut at Opernhaus Zürich as Michel in a new production of Martinů’s Juliette directed by Artistic Director Andreas Homoki and led by General Music Director Fabio Luisi.  He returns to the Bayerische Staatsoper as Matteo in a new production of Arabella opposite Anja Harteros conducted by Philippe Jordan, and joins Opéra de Montréal as Nikolaus Sprink in Silent Night conducted by Michael Christie.   On the concert stage, he performs Mendelssohn’s Die erste Walpurgisnacht with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s led by Principal Conductor Pablo Heras-Casado ­­­­at Carnegie Hall, Mozart’s Requiem with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra conducted by Music Director Jaap Van Zweden, and offers a joint recital at New York City’s Pace University with soprano Julia Bullock and pianist Steven Blier.

Mr. Kaiser’s 2013-14 season encompasses performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Metropolitan Opera conducted by James Conlon, a return to Houston Grand Opera for The Passengerunder the baton of Music Director Patrick Summers, Salome at the Bayerische Staatsoper led by Asher Fisch, and The Magic Flute at Washington National Opera with Music Director Philippe Auguin.  On the concert stage the tenor sings Mozart’s Requiem with Ivor Bolton and the Wiener Symphoniker andDavidde Penitente with Music Director Louis Langrée and the Cincinnati Symphony, Berlioz’s Te Deum with Charles Dutoit and the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with Conductor Emeritus Bernard Haitink and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Britten’s War Requiem and Cantata Misericordium with James Conlon and the symphonies of UCLA, USC and The Colburn School, and Beethoven’s Fidelio – singing the role of Florestan for the first time – with Jérémie Rhorer conducting Le Cercle de l'Harmonie on a European tour.

Joseph Kaiser's 2012/13 season

Mr. Kaiser’s 2012-13 season begins with performances as Flamand in Strauss’s Capriccio at the Opéra National de Paris in a production by Robert Carsen and conducted by Philippe Jordan.  Operatic engagements also include Houston Grand Opera’s mounting of the Francesca Zambello production of Showboat as the leading man Gaylord Ravenal, Dominick Argento’s The Aspern Papers at the Dallas Opera, semi-staged performances of Capriccio at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden led by Sir Andrew Davis, and Christof Loy’s production of Gluck’s Alcesteat the Vienna State Opera in the role of Admète.  Concert engagements include Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Berlin Philharmonic under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle, the Toronto Symphony conducted by Matthew Halls, and with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Robertson.

Joseph Kaiser's 2011/12 season

Mr. Kaiser opens the 2011–12 season as Pylades in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride at the Canadian Opera Company in a production by Robert Carsen conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado.  Other operatic engagements include Grimoaldo in Händel’s Rodelinda at the Metropolitan Opera under the baton of Harry Bicket in Stephen Wadsworth’s classic production, Steva Buryja in Janáček’s Jenůfa at the Deutsche Oper Berlin with Donald Runnicles conducting, and Matteo in Strauss’s Arabella at the Opéra National de Paris with Renée Fleming in the title role.  Concert engagements this season include Mozart’s Requiem with the Mostly Mozart Festival, under the baton of Louis Langrée, as well as with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s conducted by Iván Fischer at Carnegie Hall.
